A gentle-appearing shinigami. He was brutally murdered, with his murderer still unknown. He faked his own death using his soul cutter's ability to create illusions so he could research an alternate method of obtaining the hougyoku from Rukia Kuchiki's soul. Once he obtained it, he left Soul Society with Gin Ichimaru and Kaname Tousen. Their current whereabouts are unknown, but it is suspected that they have taken over leadership of the allankar and are using the hougyoku to form them into an army.

He is fond of Yachiru Kusajishi, who gave him his nickname, and has been a member of the 11th division for 10 years.

He is very vain and cares a lot about his looks and appearance in general.

He has a move called Houzankenbu, which is basically him slashing away so quickly and so many times that it often frightens opponents.

She is shy and gentle, but extremely loyal to those she admires and cares for. She cares a lot about Toushirou Hitsugaya, as she's known him since they were very young, and admired Sousuke Aizen to the point where she was almost dependent on him. She's known as a kidou specialist. During her time at the Central Institution for Spiritual Arts she attended advanced classes with Renji Abarai and Itzuru Kira and eventually became friends with them.

While in the Central Institution for Spiritual Arts he was slated to be admitted to the 13 Gotei Divisions far in advance and was well known as a result. He was a few years above Renji Abarai, Momo Hinamori, and Itzuru Kira and sometimes lead their practical training sessions.

He's the youngest captain and cares a lot about Momo Hinamori, since he's known her from very young. He tends to be very protective of her.

He used to be in the 11th division but left so he could become a lieutenant. His excuses are really lame, but he is considerate to his captain. He became lieutenant recently, around the same time as Renji Abarai.

Rarely opens his eyes and generally has a creepy smile on his face. He speaks in kansai dialect. All in all a very mysterious character.He used to be lieutenant of the 5th division under Sousuke Aizen. Since then he has been Aizen's right hand man and true lieutenant, even after he became captain of the 3rd division. Once obtaining the hougyoku he left Soul Society with Aizen and Kaname Tousen. Their current whereabouts are unknown, but it is suspected that they have taken over leadership of the allankar and are using the hougyoku to form them into an army.

He is obsessed with fame and claims he is more handsome without his glasses on.

In battle he tended to pick on the weaker opponents when possible. His shinigami pressure points have been sealed by Uryuu Ishida so he can never be a shinigami again.

A serious, no nonsense woman. Although she gets annoyed by Shunsui Kyouraku's antics, she is a good foil for him and supportive when push comes to shove.

A loyal and by the book lieutenant. He got the top entrance exam score for the Central Institution for Spiritual Arts the year he entered. During his time there attended advanced classes with Renji Abarai and Itzuru Kira and eventually became friends with them.

He wears a helmet on this head to prevent anyone from seeing his face. He's also very loyal to Genryuusai Shigekuni Yamamoto and good friends with Kaname Tousen. He has a high sense of honor. It turns out he has the head of a fox and feels indebted to Yamamoto for taking him in despite his appearance when many others turned him away.

She is reluctant to fight and seems to be talented at kidou.

She is constantly trying to outmanuever Sentarou Kotsubaki and curry favor with her superiors. This leads to constant bickering between the two of them. However, she is very loyal to other members of her division.

He is constantly trying to outmanuever Kiyone Kotetsu and curry favor with his superiors. This leads to constant bickering between the two of them. However, he is very loyal to other members of his division.

Creepy and sometimes seems insane. He has no regard for the life of others, including his subordinates.

Not much is known about her, other than she actually cares for her father despite the way he treats her. She is a very obedient daughter.

He's clueless about what's going on in Soul Society and the world around him.

• Like Kenpachi, she is the only lieutenant who became a shinigami without taking the entry examination.
• Her sword is not very long, so instead of tying it to her waist, she drags it around with a rope. She's probably utilizing the holes in her sheathe the way they were meant to be used, but Ikkaku used to say that she was too sassy.
• Her favorite food is konpeitou. No matter how much you give her, she'll eat it all.

She absolutely worships Kenpachi Zaraki and is most often seen riding around on his shoulder. She often gives people bizarre nicknames, but quickly forgets them. She has a horrible sense of direction.

He's very laid back, but honorable. He can be somewhat of a flirt. He's only one of two shinigami to possess a soul cutter comprised of two swords. The other shinigami, Juushirou Ukitake is a long-time friend of his. Both of them are among the oldest students of Genryuusai Shigekuni Yamamoto.

He often does odd dances at bizarre times and is proud of his name. He also highly enjoys fighting and is proud that he's never backed out of one.

She is an old acquaintance of Gin Ichimaru and is a loyal, dutiful lieutenant. She is also drinking buddies with Shunsui Kyouraku.

Is often critical of Yaruchika Iemura.

He gets annoyed by interruptions to the daily routine of Soul Society.

He admires Rukia a lot and is a bit obsessed with love affairs. He has an odd tendency to fall asleep when hurt. This character only appears in the anime.

A brash, loud man that loves all that shinigami stand for. Unlike most people he doesn't care about whether someone is nobility or not and breaks rules that he feels are unfair. He was killed by Rukia Kuchiki when a hollow shattered his soul cutter and merged with his body, but so far his position in the 13th division has not been replaced.

A tough woman. She considers any who gets in her way to be enemies that need to be cut down. She's determined to prove she is better at her job as the Head of the Division of Special Operations than her predecessor, Yoruichi Shihouin because she feels betrayed that Yoruichi, whom she greatly admired, left the position and her behind without even saying goodbye.

He's blind and has a burning to maintain peace because a woman he cared for had that dream, but was killed before she could accomplish it. Because he is blind, he is the only one not affected by the illusions of Sousuke Aizen's soul cutter, but was somehow recruited by him, perhaps during the time when he was in the 5th division and Aizen was its lieutenant. Once obtaining the hougyoku he left Soul Society with Aizen and Gin Ichimaru. Their current whereabouts are unknown, but it is suspected that they have taken over leadership of the allankar and are using the hougyoku to form them into an army.

• Eldest of 8 siblings in the Lower Aristocratic Ukitake Clan (5 younger brothers and 2 younger sisters)
• White hair. Since infancy. In the three days following the first attack of his pulmonary disease, his hair turned white.
• His favorite food is Umeboushi Chatzuke (Pickled Plum on Boiled Rice w/ hot Green Tea poured over it). There`s nothing he doesn`t like. He will eat anything, no matter what it is, though his body is weak.
• Since the names Jyuushirou and Toushirou sound rather similar, he has a one-sided favoritism for Hitsugaya. As soon as he sees Hitsugaya, he wants to give the boy something to eat.

He is sickly and sometimes coughs up blood like he has late stage tuberculosis, but is still a good fighter and a good leader that cares about those under his command. He's only one of two shinigami to possess a soul cutter comprised of two swords. The other shinigami, Shunsui Kyouraku is a long-time friend of his. Both of them are among the oldest students of Genryuusai Shigekuni Yamamoto.

He's stronger than 15 men.

She is gentle but can be firm when disciplining those under her if needed.

He is very timid and a bit clumsy but desires to become stronger and not depend on others. He is very talented at healing.

He is very old, wise, and experienced. He is also a very strict leader and a formidable opponent.

• The only captain of the 13 Gotei Divisions who did not take an entrance exam to become a shinigami.
• Every morning he has to wake up early and use a lot of gel for his hairstyle. The bells at the end of each of the spikes are especiallly problematic to fix.
• He has no favorite things, but he dislikes natto.

He loves fighting and only believes in his own strength. Unlike most shinigami, he does not know the name of his soul cutter, but is very formidable despite this handicap. Because of his huge amount of spiritual pressure, he generally wears an eyepatch to consume some of his spiritual pressure.

He is highly admires Renji Abarai and has trouble handling hell butterflies.
